Jessica Mao is a Bay Area-based composer, pianist, and teacher. She most recently worked with Santa Monica Studio's music team as a music editor the major PlayStation titles Ghost of Tsushima and the upcoming God of War Ragnarök. She is also a video game and film music enthusiast, and a pianist who somehow always finds herself attempting to learn pieces that are physically impossible for her to play (looking at you, Liszt and Rachmaninoff). Her works, which have been recorded at locations including Skywalker Sound and Sony Interactive Entertainment, are inspired by both sonic and visual mediums. Combining her classical background with her love of electronic music and video game soundtracks, she creates dramatic music that blends familiar orchestral timbres with hybrid elements, allowing her to explore a wide variety of harmonies and textures.
When she isn't doing musical things, Jessica can be found drawing Pikachus on whiteboards, drawing your D&D campaign characters, pointing out every dog she sees, or drinking dangerous amounts of coffee and/or milk tea at odd hours. Sometimes, it's coffee milk tea. Yes, that exists and it tastes delicious.
